Global supply chain issues have become increasingly prominent, impacting various industries worldwide. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed vulnerabilities, disrupting manufacturing, transportation, and distribution networks. Lockdowns, border closures, and workforce shortages led to production delays and shortages of essential goods. Additionally, geopolitical tensions and trade disputes have further strained supply chains, prompting companies to reassess their sourcing strategies. Climate-related events, such as natural disasters, also pose threats to supply chain resilience.
Technology advancements, while beneficial, introduce new challenges like cyber security risks. To mitigate these issues, businesses are adopting agile and diversified supply chain models, embracing digital solutions, and fostering collaborative relationships with suppliers for greater adaptability in an ever-evolving global landscape.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning are enhancing decision-making processes, optimising production efficiency, and predicting maintenance needs. Robotics, including collaborative robots or cobots, are revolutionising manufacturing by working alongside humans, improving flexibility and precision. The Internet of Things (IoT) enables seamless connectivity and data exchange among devices, enhancing real-time monitoring and control. Cloud computing facilitates remote monitoring and management of industrial processes, enhancing scalability and accessibility. These innovations are not only increasing productivity but also reshaping the workforce, requiring upskilling and adaptability in the face of a rapidly evolving industrial landscape, whilst bringing huge opportunities for all in Industry.
Routeco continues to adapt and shape itself to deliver advice, solutions and services to meet these changing demands, investing additional resources in areas such as software, mechatronics and cybersecurity. As part of Routeco’s continued growth story, during 2023 we acquired Swibox Automation, the Rockwell APR holder for Switzerland and have been working with the local team to develop and enhance their systems and services offerings, investing in additional internal and external resources to grow in the Swiss market.
