This week we’re celebrating sustainability. Taking care of the planet is one of Sonepar’s key commitments and as a global group, we have set ambitious targets to reduce our impact and invested €billions in modernising supply chains and digital platform to deliver products while reducing CO2 emission and waste to limit global warming.
Big action requires big numbers but small changes that we can make every day can also contribute significantly. At Routeco, our warehouse in Milton Keynes packages and sends out products to customers each day. It was important to us to create a project team find innovative solutions to help reduce our environmental impact and here are some of the things we’ve done so far.
Sustainable packaging changes:
Routeco paper packing tape
Paper packing tape offers a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic options. Made from kraft paper, it's biodegradable and recyclable, reducing the environmental impact of packaging.
Cornstarch Document Windows
These transparent, biodegradable alternatives to plastic windows offer a sustainable solution to envelopes.
Ocean blue bubble wrap
Blue Ocean void fill is a sustainable packaging material made from 100% recycled ocean-bound plastic. It replaces traditional bubble wrap and other fillers, reducing plastic waste in oceans. The environmental benefits include lower carbon emissions, reduced ocean pollution, and promoting circular economy practices.

Redesigned our boxes
We can fold our boxes in different ways to use space efficiently and ensure we don’t need to use any void fill packaging, saving one tonne of void fill per month!
We also use everything for as many times as we can, and recycle cardboard, palletwrap, wood and metal when we can no longer use it. We no longer use any polystyrene inflatable foam products. We try not to use any plastic packaging but any we do use is either reused or recycled.
Other initiatives include delivering multiple orders on a single delivery and if this is something you’re interested in implementing, please speak to your account manager.
